WELCOME to New Zealand's subtropical paradise. Whangarei Subtropical Quarry Gardens is a community project created by volunteers in the remnants of an old quarry in Russell Road, Whangarei, Northland, New Zealand.
The Whangarei Subtropical Quarry Gardens feature waterfalls and a lake, walking tracks, picnic areas, native plants and trees, a wonderful collection of camellias, an arid garden, bromeliad garden and spectacular subtropical gardens.
In the gardens you will find spectacular subtropical plantings in a terraced amphitheatre with a lake fed by two waterfalls.
Whangarei's mild climate and above average rainfall, as well as the quarry's heat-radiating stone walls and natural water sources, combine to create the perfect location for a subtropical paradise.
Plants that would struggle to grow elsewhere in New Zealand are flourishing in the Whangarei Quarry Gardens' microclimate. |
